Saju George SJ

"Yoga has been part and parcel of my life since my teenage years and it became integral to my dance and prayer, especially since the beginning of my Jesuit religious life in 1984. I have received some special training in yogic practices and asanas that are suitable for the grooming of an Indian classical dancer’s body and mind. Yoga helps me to make my body limbs move more in a subtle and supple way. It also increases the ability to control breath while dancing vigorously and strenuously as well as gently and gracefully for a long time. I teach some of the yoga-asanas to my dance students and pranayama is very much part of my workshops and seminars.
Yoga helps me to pray, meditate, contemplate, dance and keep myself youthful, fit and healthy. It gives me a sense of well-being, sustained peace and serenity in daily life. Regular practice of yoga helps my soul to feel deeply with greater self awareness and concentration. I feel my stamina and strength increasing with sustained practice of yoga. Yoga helps me to unite my body, mind and soul with Divine. Yoga with dance has increased my self-confidence and tenacity to face difficult and hard situations in daily life. The study of Yoga has increased my knowledge of Hinduism and Indian culture. Yoga is a means of union between me and Divine."
